CTE Month: Health Affects Career

As LISD continues to spotlight our Career & Technical Education courses, we are focusing on LHS students in Mrs. Kayla Rodriguez's health classes and character traits. Did you know that health affects your career?  Mrs. Rodrugez set up a hands-on etiquette meal that included quest speakers from Levelland to show students that health affects everything. Before the actual lunch event, students knew that being healthy is what you eat, but also how you eat. Students learned that using table manners is about taming impulsivity, willpower, and restraint.  Students practiced which fork to use, discovered portion size, and realized that eliminating electronics during meals made them eat with more awareness to enjoy the conversation. People that eat with good manners will be less likely to offend and more likely to impress. Therefore, this lesson was perfect for preparing for a lunch interview that could happen in their future. Mrs. Rodriguez is always thinking of out of the box ideas to reach her kids. For all these reasons, she included table etiquette into her health class curriculum. Thank you to Studebakers and Langohr for providing the Unique professional venue and the fabulous meal. Thank you to Michael Wiiest, Kam Caffey, Randy Jackson, Daphne Sonnenburg, and Omar Solano for speaking about careers students are interested, and for proving that college isn't the answer for everyone.
