As we focus on CTE courses this month, it is impossible to walk down the hall and not smell the wonderful smell of bread baking! LHS students in Mrs. Khris Oaks' culinary classes are learning to bake bread while studying food science. Baking bread seems like a simple process to most of us, using only four ingredients: flour, water, yeast, and salt. But Mrs. Oaks teaches the chemistry behind how these four ingredients interact and how varying them changes the bread's characteristics. Mrs. Oaks' food science class is a wonderful CTE course that opens doors for the students in her class because she provides opportunities for students to prepare for the workforce. Are you hungry now?
