District Attorney Visits Coach Rod's Class

During CTE Month, we have been focusing on careers. What better way to impact a career than to have a community member visit your class?  District Attorney Angela Overman did just that!  She visited Coach Kayla Rodriguez's Health Class to visit with students about pursuing their goals.   Angela spoke to the classes and told students to strive for what they want, no matter how hard it seems.  She told them that she earned her Bachelor's Degree in 1990, her Master's in 1993, and her Law Degree and license to practice in 1996.  Angela explained that college was a financial struggle for her as she had no assistance other than loans, a couple of scholarships, and a grant. She advised students to look for scholarships everywhere and to apply for grants because you never know who might get them, and if you don't try, you won't get them.  Mrs. Overman continued, saying that she had her solo law practice for 23 years before she was appointed District Attorney for the 286th Judicial District of Cochran and Hockley counties by Governor Abbott. She served 16 months until she was elected by the people to District Attorney, taking office on January 1, 2021.  Angela Overman is truly a role model for our young students striving to become a lawyer.  We thank her for her time that she set aside to come to visit LHS. We also thank Coach Rod for seeing the need to make life goals come true for her students!
